Connect players, photo apps, and backup tools

Fill in a WebDAV client once, then use the files in the way that app supports.

Help

Video players, music players, photo browsers, file managers, and some backup tools can connect to a WebDAV server. Each app decides which formats and operations it supports.

Add a WebDAV connection

  1. Find Add server, Network, or WebDAV in the other app.
  2. Select WebDAV over HTTP for the address provided by Zwind.
  3. If the form has one URL field, enter http://<host>:<port>/.
  4. If it separates fields, enter the host without http://, the port shown on Home, and / as the starting path. Disable HTTPS unless you actually configured an HTTPS endpoint outside this app.
  5. Leave authentication off when anonymous access is enabled. Otherwise enter the server’s WebDAV username and password.
  6. Test the connection, browse a data folder, and open a file.

For separate fields, use the IP address as the host, the number after the colon as the port, and / as the path unless connecting to a specific subfolder. Do not enter your storage provider’s cookie, SMB password, or the password used only to unlock server startup.

Play video and music

Choose a player with WebDAV support, then browse the media folder. Playback depends on that player’s codecs, the file format, the phone’s reachability, and the network. Streaming still needs the server to stay running; the address is not permanent cloud hosting.

Browse photos or back up files

Photo apps can browse supported image files. A backup tool must explicitly support WebDAV and your intended direction. Uploading a backup requires a writable destination. Try one file, check where it landed, and configure the tool’s schedule and overwrite behavior before enabling a larger job.

A WebDAV connection is not automatically a backup plan: confirm that the receiving storage has enough space, and keep another copy of important files.
