Open the address in a browser
Browse and download shared files on another device without a WebDAV app.
A browser is the quickest way to see what your server shares. This is useful for a friend collecting a file, a tablet opening a document, or a meeting attendee downloading handouts.
Open shared files
- Start the selected server on Home.
- Copy or enter its complete address, including
http://and the port, for examplehttp://192.168.1.20:8080/. - On the other device, paste it into the browser’s address bar. Use the address bar rather than a search box.
- If the browser asks you to sign in, enter the server’s WebDAV username and password.
- Open a data folder and select a file to open or download. The browser chooses how supported file types are displayed.
The folder listing is a browsing and download surface. To upload or manage files, use a writable WebDAV connection in a file manager or third-party client.
Share the right link
A server address opens the collection of data folders. A file or folder link points to that item. Zwind’s Browser has Share Link for sharing an item’s address; Share sends the actual file instead. If you make a QR code with a tool you already use, encode the link you want recipients to open. A QR code does not make the phone reachable across the internet.
Never put a password into a shared URL. Give authorized recipients the WebDAV login separately when it is needed. For an event or repeated access, read Share with many people.
